The Thomas Jefferson Jaguars delivered a strong all-around performance Thursday night, defeating Upper St. Clair 5–1 in a PIHL varsity hockey matchup at Ice Castle Ice Arena.
Special teams proved to be the deciding factor, as Thomas Jefferson converted four power-play goals and controlled play throughout the contest. The Jaguars jumped out to an early lead in the first period and never looked back, using disciplined execution and sustained offensive pressure to secure the conference win.
Lucas Blose opened the scoring at the 12:09 mark of the first period with a power-play goal, followed by another man-advantage tally from Carter Artman just over three minutes later. The two goals gave Thomas Jefferson a 2–0 lead after one and set the tone for the remainder of the night.
Upper St. Clair responded quickly to start the second period when Nevin Shegan Siniawski scored just nine seconds in, cutting the deficit to 2–1. Any momentum gained was short-lived, however, as Cam Lorenzi answered with a short-handed goal midway through the period to restore Thomas Jefferson’s two-goal advantage.
The Jaguars continued to apply pressure in the third period, adding two more power-play goals to put the game out of reach. Blose scored his second goal of the night at 3:06, and Owen Michael capped the scoring at 13:40 to seal the 5–1 victory.
Thomas Jefferson finished the night 4-for-5 on the power play, while Upper St. Clair went 0-for-6 with the man advantage. The Jaguars also held a significant edge in shot attempts, outshooting Upper St. Clair 42–23.
In goal, Ben Balducci was steady for Thomas Jefferson, stopping 22 of 23 shots for a .957 save percentage. Upper St. Clair’s Owen Laurent faced consistent pressure, recording 37 saves in the loss.
